Introduction
When one thinks of Bob Odenkirk, one doesn’t usually think of John Wick-like barrages of ass-kicking. We associate the immensely talented Odenkirk with his career-defining role as Saul Goodman (aka Slippin’ Jimmy McGill) on the shows Breaking Bad and its prequel series, Better Call Saul. Or, if you’re a bit older, like this writer, his groundbreaking and hilarious sketch comedy show Mr. Show with Bob and David, which aired on HBO in the mid-1990s. However, in 2021, that’s exactly what we got, and it worked. Nobody was both a critical and commercial success with Odenkirk playing Hutch Mansell, a mild-mannered family man trying to hide a violent past.
While Nobody seems like its DNA is steeped in the John Wick universe (David Leitch, the film’s producer also produced and co-directed the first John Wick film), the two films actually couldn’t be more different. John Wick’s violence is cartoonish. The use of ‘Gun-Kata’ is excessive and Keanu Reeves’ titular character is borderline superhuman. The franchise is a lot of fun, but is grounded in fantasy. Odenkirk’s Hutch is tired, and aging, and he fights that way. He hurts and he bleeds. This is what makes the ‘bus scene’ in Nobody all the more enjoyable. We’re not sure he’s going to come out on top. So when he does, the viewing audience is elated.

Nobody 2
Back in December 2022, a sequel to Nobody was announced by producer Kelly McCormick with Odenkirk officially onboard to reprise his role. Odenkirk will have his hands full this time around as he also co-wrote the screenplay as well as co-produced. Timo Tjahjanto (The Big 4, The Shadow Strays) will take on directing duties and the cast has some big names added to it with Sharon Stone and Colin Hanks joining in on the fun. Principal photography on Nobody 2 began on August 6, 2024, in Winnipeg, and wrapped production on September 26, 2024.
While details on the plot of Nobody 2 remain scarce, Tjahjanto spoke with Empire Magazine back in November, stating that the sequel will focus on Hutch’s family a bit more as well as diving into his backstory in much greater detail:
“Now that he’s back at it in full throttle, how does his family react to this beast? You’ll see a lot of the questions that fathers and husbands ask — ‘How do they react to this other side of me who’s constantly hustling and working for the family?’ It’s gonna be quite a journey”
Universal Pictures is distributing Nobody 2, which stars Bob Odenkirk, Connie Nielsen, RZA, Sharon Stone, and Christopher Lloyd. The film is scheduled for wide release on August 15, 2025. We’ll let you know as soon as we have the first trailer or more plot details!
