Announcement

In an announcement that surprised no one, the true bride of Chucky, M3GAN, will return to theatres this Summer in M3GAN 2.0. The follow-up to the 2022 box-office hit M3GAN will also bring back the original creative team, including kings of modern horror, James Wan and Jason Blum, and director Gerard Johnstone.

The first M3GAN film, as described by director Johnstone, was inspired by the must-have toy of Christmas 1998…the Furby. The film made an immediate impact on audiences with a truly shocking prologue. It also touched on some deep subject matter, including childhood loss, trauma, and growing anxiety over ‘screentime’ for children. Not to mention the increasing influence of AI in our daily lives. There were also dark laughs and gnarly kills.

The original M3GAN was made on a $12 million budget and opened to $30.4 million domestically. This was the biggest opening weekend for a PG-13 horror film since A Quiet Place Part II (2020). It went on to gross over $180 million worldwide and became a cosplay favorite, creating a modern horror icon and leaving the door open for a franchise.

The Story (spoilers!)

M3GAN 2.0 is set two years after M3GAN’s original murderous quest for revenge as she sought to protect her owner, Cady. However, she was seemingly stopped and destroyed by her creator, Gemma (Allison Williams). We have learned that M3GAN-tech has fallen into the wrong hands and is to be weaponized. No doubt the AI will soon become the sum of all fears, develop a superiority complex-styled self-aware, and generate its own motives, Ultron-style.

“M3GAN 2.0” is scheduled to be released in the United States by Universal Pictures on June 27, 2025.

M3GAN 2.0 will also welcome back cast members Brian Jordan Alvarez and Jen Van Epps as Gemma’s surviving teammates, Cole and Tess, as well as new characters played by Aristotle Athari (Saturday Night Live, Hacks), Timm Sharp (Apples Never Fall, Percy Jackson and the Olympians) and Grammy winner Jemaine Clement (Avatar: The Way of Water, What We Do in the Shadows).

#M3GAN2 is in theaters on June 27.
